Top French ski resorts to celebrate New Year’s Eve

While Paris regularly ranks high on people’s New Year’s Eve bucket list, a French ski resort is also a great place to celebrate “Le Reveillon de la Saint-Sylvestre”

The resorts all ring in the New Year with a combination of fireworks, torch-lit descents and parties at the local bars and clubs. For sumptuous French feasts in a restaurant, you will need to book as early as you can to ensure you get a table.

It’s best to select a snow sure resort if you want to do some skiing as well.

Here are a few selections of the best French ski resorts for celebrating New Year’s Eve:

New Year’s Eve in Tignes

Tignes is known for the New Year celebrations with the biggest free outdoor party in Europe, at Tignes le Lac. So, grab your moon-boots and rock on down to the Pop-Rock Party on the highest dance floor in Europe. Watch the fireworks from the dance floor!

If you are after something a little more refined, book into your restaurant of choice for a traditional and sumptuous French feast complete with French champagne!

With skiing up to 3,656m the area is snow sure, even if the snow gods have not been overly generous on the lower elevations leading up to the Christmas period. You can be whisked up to the glacier by the Grande Motte Funicular, a high-speed inclined cable railway from Val Claret in 6-8 minutes. From here you can access some 300kms of runs in the ski area linked with Val d’Isere.

New Year’s Eve in Val d’Isere

Meanwhile over in Val d’Isere, book into one of the many venues for a New Year’s Eve party, be it a themed event or a big-name DJ or, for something quieter, book into your favourite restaurant for a special New Year’s Eve menu. Be sure to book well in advance!

At midnight, join the crowd in the town centre for the final countdown and fireworks.

New Year’s Eve in Les Deux Alpes

The fashionable resort of Les Deux Alpes has a vibrant après scene with New Year’s Eve celebrations starting with a torch-lit parade, fireworks and vin chaud.

Because New Year’s Eve is generally very busy, most of the bars operate a paid entry policy so it’s a good idea to plan ahead if you want to hit the bars and decide in advance where you want to be at midnight. The majority of bars will also put on some extra entertainment to justify their entry fee, so it should be a great night out if you want to party till dawn and beyond.
