Best Time to Go Skiing in the French Alps

Val D'isere Ski Resort (18)

Best and cheapest time to go skiing in the French Alps? It’s not what you think!

Fortunately for Australians travelling to France to ski in the January school holidays, there are cheaper low season rates on offer in the French ski resorts. These special rates apply from January 2nd to Feb 6th 2021 and can be as much as 50% off the high season rates!

And that’s not all! Europeans and the Brits flock to the resorts in droves throughout February and into March, as this is their winter school holiday period (high season for the French Alps). So, throughout January the slopes, ski schools and restaurants will not be as busy.

This is especially the case during the week. However, you can expect to share the slopes with the locals on the weekends if there has been a good recent snowfall.

Typically, in January the snow is dry with the greatest depth. Be warned though, this is also the coldest time, so you will need to make sure that you dress warmly.

It is still wise to choose a high-altitude resort in case mother nature has not been kind earlier in the season. Bear in mind though, that snow-making is used to supplement natural snowfall in high traffic areas.

To conclude, not only is it the cheapest time of the winter season to go skiing in January in the French Alps, it is also the best time to go thanks to the weather conditions, the lack of queues, uncrowded slopes and greater availability and choice of accommodation.

Why not swap the sun and the surf for skiing in France this coming European snow season?
