This family-friendly resort near the Italian border in the Maurienne Valley provides a more affordable alternative to France’s more famous resorts. Its authentic town sits at 1,500 metres and is dotted with wooden chalets.

Valfréjus has more than 65 kilometres of terrain and is part of the 300-kilometre Eski-Mo ski area. It has ten lifts, with three green runs, 11 blue, six red and four black, as well as a boardercross and sled park and a snake gliss.
There’s an outdoor ice-skating rink, a two-kilometre toboggan run and activities including snowshoeing and speed riding (a mix of skiing and paragliding). There isn’t much of an après ski scene, but you’ll find a bakery, creperie and several pizzerias as well as traditional French restaurants. A visit to the local cheese factory is a must!
