Things to do - general

Up until the 14th century there was only one community in the Saas Valley: Saas. Four villages arose out of Saas – of those four Saas Fee, also known as “The Pearl of the Alps”, is the most renowned; 18 four thousand meter peaks surround the glacier village, which is located at an altitude of 1800 meters above sea level.

Traffic-free Saas-Fee has managed to hold on to its rustic character despite its state-of-the-art infrastructure. With their old Valaisian wooden houses and grain barns, Saas-Grund, Saas-Almagell and Saas-Balen have all retained their original village character.

Skiing and snowboarding, carving, cross country skiing (32 km), telemark skiing, sledging (also by night), winter hiking (60 km of trails), curling, ice-skating, old style curling, ski touring, nordic walking, ice climbing, snowshoe hiking, Gorge Alpine, snow tubing, kids fun park.

“Feeblitz”, the 900-m-long winter and summer toboggan run, opened in Saas-Fee in September 2000. Ride down the slope at up to 40 kph on toboggans with comfortable backrests – tremendous fun for all ages. Steep turns and a 360-degree corkscrew at a height of 9 metres are guaranteed to get your pulse racing!

Into the Gorge with 007
A tour through the gorge between Saas-Fee and Saas-Grund is an exciting experience at any time of the year. The Gorge Alpine is a “path” between air, water and rocks. A safe adventure with no water contact; a dynamic via ferrata. The first part is easy – but then the fun starts. Steep rock faces require care using claws, ladders, tree trunks and rocks. The most breathtaking sections are the Tyrolean lines, gravity cableways à la James Bond. Suspended from a roller and secured by the mountain guide, visitors slide from one side of the gorge to the other.

Sledge rides and scooters
Sledges and scooters go together: down on two runners in winter, and on two wheels in summer. The routes are identical: from Hannig there is a 5-km natural road to Saas-Fee, from Kreuzboden it’s 11 km down to Saas-Grund. This is one of the longest sledging runs in Europe. A very special experience: night sledging followed by fondue. Non-skiers are pampered too: there are 60 km of winter hiking trails, prepared daily; 32 km of cross-country tracks, and 8-km-long skating pistes. Saas-Fee also has an indoor swimming pool – perfect for relaxing after curling or ice skating
