Les Menuires

This resort is popular for families, with more affordable accommodation than other Three Valleys resorts, but also offers plenty of opportunities for off-piste skiing.

Ski area

Les Menuires has one of the largest ski zones in France dedicated to children, the two-hectare Piou-Piou Village. There’s also plenty of fun for adults at the resort, with 160 kilometres of groomed runs, an exceptional off-piste ski area and freestyle and boardercross at the BK Park. Les Menuires sits at 1,850 metres and has 33 lifts and 76 runs, including 12 green, 34 blue, 24 red and six black.

The reasonably-priced largely ski-in/ski-out accommodation ranges from standard apartments to chalets and five-star hotels.

Activities include mountain biking on snow, a four kilometre-long Roc’n Bob toboggan run and a luge called Speed Mountain. The Sports and Wellbeing Centre has a pool, sauna, jacuzzi, gym, squash courts, badminton, basketball and table tennis and a children’s fun park with a giant castle, ball pool, slides and a rope bridge.

Eating out

‘‘Le Bouche à Oreille’’, by René et Maxime Meilleur
The two Michelin star chefs from La Bouitte, René and Maxime Meilleur, take to the slopes of Les 3 Vallées and open a new gourmet bistro. Located  at the top of the Roc des 3 Marches, at 2700 m  altitude, the restaurant Le Bouche à Oreille  recently underwent a complete transformation.

Today the alpine design dining room seats 170  people and a large terrace on 2 levels seats a  further 250 and offers superb 360 ° panoramic  views (site ranked 2 * in the Michelin guide).
On the menu: trout with almonds, veal shank,  meat on the spit, light blueberry waffle.

‘‘Chez Pépé Nicolas’’
Located outside the resort, “Chez pépé Nicolas”  is an alpage chalet which serves refined, local  Savoyard food. The Suchet family has run  this restaurant since 1957, concentrating on  traditional values. They revisit polenta, serving  it as a kind of “croque-monsieur”, whilst both  the pot-au-feu stew, which is slow cooked, and  the rissoles (traditional Belleville dessert) are  prepared as they would have been in days gone  by.

L’Ours Blanc ‘‘Maître Restaurateur’’
The Ours Blanc is an impressive 4 star hotel  located in Les Menuires. Its restaurant, which is  run by pascal Casali, serves a sophisticated and  traditional menu: smoky plank-cooked  salmon  with a wasabi cream, sole meunière with caper  berries, grilled lobster en blanquette, fillet of  duck breast in a mulled wine, or a veal t-bone  with morels… Awarded a “Maître Restaurateur” title in 2015, it  is a restaurant not to be missed.
